Grant Proposal Writing

During the course of the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), Intelligentsia have written many successfully funded FP7 project proposals with a combined value of 20m. The following are a couple of typical examples:

 

FP7 CEOSeR

In early 2012, Intelligentsia helped the Department of Organic Technology at Kaunas University of Technology (DOT-KTU) to write the ambitious CEOSeR proposal for the EU's FP7 Capacities programme to establish a Centre of Excellence in Organic Semiconductor Research. The competition to win funds from this EU programme is extremely fierce and the success rate often well below 10%. Nevertheless, DOT-KTU triumphed with CEOSeR coming first - with a perfect score of 15/15 - out of 287 ranked proposals. The project's €2.8m grant funding represents the largest individual grant won under FP7 by Kaunas University of Technology or any other research organisation in Lithuania. The EU funds have enabled DOT-KTU to invest in state-of-the-art equipment - such as new spectrometers and liquid chromatography system - and hire five additional researchers and two innovation support managers. From a scientific perspective, CEOSeR will enable DOT-KTU to strengthen its research capability in the development of new materials - so-called electroactive low-molar-mass materials as well as polymeric and dendritic materials - for organic large area electronic technology.

 

FP7 LEO

In early 2013, Intelligentsia supported the Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire, Agroalimentaire et de l’Alimentation (ONIRIS) to prepare the successful €1.4m LEO proposal to the EU’s FP7 Knowledge Based Bio-Economy (KBBE) programme. The LEO project will develop low energy ovens – based on ONIRIS’ patented infrared technology – targeted at SME bakeries. Earlier studies conducted by ONIRIS indicated their novel technology could make significant savings during the pre-heating step compared to standard baking ovens (20-40% less specific energy and 70% reduction in time). Consequently, the ovens have excellent potential for commercial exploitation by SME bakeries. During the LEO project, prototype conveyor and batch baking ovens will be produced and tested in-situ in French and German bakeries. Also, an assessment of the ovens’ environmental, social and economic life-cycle impact will be conducted.
